3. “Insert Skimming” Burglar used Infrared to steal Data from ATM

Nowadays, hacking of ATM, stealing of money from ATM or stealing credentials from ATM is very common thing. So this is basically called as ATM Skimming . Credit card skimming thieves have upped their game and are using infrared communications to minimize their chances of getting caught.

The number of cyber attacks against ATM involving so-called ‘insert skimmers’ is increasing. Insert Skimmers are wafer-thin fraud devices designed to fit invisibly inside the ATM card slot. Insert Skimmers are able to capture card data and store it on an embedded flash memory. The popular cyber security expert Brian Krebs reported in some cases the use of insert skimmers that are able to transmit stolen card data wirelessly via infrared. The infrared is a short-range communication technology, every day we use it when we change TV program with a television remote control. To acquire basic knowledge about cyber security students can take admission in best polytechnic college in Pune .

A case that has happened a few weeks ago in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area where at least four banks were victims of ATM attacks involving insert skimmers.

The KFOR news channel quoted a local police detective saying “the skimmer contains an antenna which transmits your card information to a tiny camera hidden somewhere outside the ATM.”

Card data recorded and transmitted by the insert skimmer

In such type of attack, the hidden camera has a dual function

  • To record time-stamped videos of ATM users entering their PINs
  • To receive card data recorded and transmitted by the insert skimmer.

In this scenario, the scammer could leave the insert skimmer embedded in the ATM’s card acceptance slot, and simply swap out the hidden camera whenever its internal battery is expected to be drained.

The insert skimmer also operates on an embedded battery, but according sources the skimmer in question was designed to turn on only when someone uses the cash machine, thereby preserving the battery.

6.Why Is Data Analytics Important for Businesses Today?

In today’s world of commerce, data and business go hand in hand. A business or organization will not function and do what it intends to do without data and information. The times have changed and at the center of it all is data and information and how they are used to achieve business goals. Data is what’s keeping the pace of many industry leaders and top-tier companies around the world. Many business and IT experts and have recommended that business organizations invest in data gathering and data analysis tools if they want to keep up with their competition.

What Is Data And Why It Is Important?
Data is simply collected facts and statistics of business operations. Data can be used to measure and record a wide range of external and internal business activities. Although some of the data collected may not be informative, it is used as the basis for all reporting, planning, strategizing and crucial business decision making at all business levels. Its importance cannot be understated as it provides the basis for daily business operations.

PCP

The Difference Between Data And Information:
Here’s one definition. Data is the raw facts and statistics gathered during a certain process (like bounce rates recorded across site pages), while information is timely and accurate data (like what time a new lead entered their information into a form and submitted). These examples are very specific though, there are a huge amount of cases where data and information are created or stored.
Information uses data to be specific and organized for some particular purpose or business goal; it can also be presented within a context that gives meaning and relevance and can lead to an increase in understanding and decrease uncertainties in business operations.
Information can also be interpreted as data that has been interpreted and then presented in a more meaningful context that allows a business to make informed decisions. Now, what will your business do with the ever-growing volume of data and how can you take advantage of it to gain more insight into customer behaviour patterns or the efficiency (or inefficiency) of internal processes to make your business a success?

Data Analytics:
A lot of terms come to mind when talking about data analytics: business intelligence, predictive analytics, big data and data science. Most of these practices can be utilized to solve similar business issues and challenges.
To some people, data analytics is a new term, but it has been around for a while now. Data analytics can be described as the “qualitative and quantitative techniques and processes used to improve productivity and business gain”.

PCP

How Does Data Analytics Work?
Let’s dig in some more and understand the concepts of data analytics and why it is important from a business perspective. Data analytics are helpful in Business to Consumer (B2C) applications. Companies collect data that they have gathered from their customers, other businesses, the economy and other sources that affect them. The collected data is then processed and categorized depending on what the organization needs the data for. Are they going to use the data to achieve some goal? Or is it general data that they want to build a historical record of to look at annually. In B2C, analysis is done to study purchase patterns and other customer behaviors, like what time zone they are in, when is the best time to send them emails so that they will open them, etc. The point is, there are so many applications for data analytics.
Data analytics also involves the practice of figuring out how an organization will implement strategies to achieve goals. Data analytics can also help enhance managerial processes and push organizations to the next level.
Data that is not analyzed is a wasted opportunity. If studied and analyzed properly, data can help any business organization find information that can bring a big change in the patterns of how they are already going. A business can have a competitive edge and do wonders with data analytics in a competitive economy.

Managers and Data Analytics
Data analytics can help produce useful reports for managers in order to make well-informed business decisions, instead of just guessing what the next step is. Two popular methods of data analytics are descriptive and predictive analytics.
The two methods can explain the relationship between factors and outcomes in a business decision that need to be made.
Predictive analytics utilizes statistical techniques like data mining, modeling, and machine learning to analyze present and historical data to make predictions. Data modeling captures relationships among factors, allowing an assessment of the possible risks involved in a specific case. These help managers in making decisions for any possible business deal or strategy change.
Descriptive analytics is used to understand past performance by looking at historical data and analyzing the reasons for past failures or successes. Understanding the cause and effect can help CEOs and managers refine or change business and operational strategies. Management reporting like sales, operations, marketing and finance take advantage of this method.

Just a few of the advantages of data analytics include:

  • Industry knowledge is one thing that an organization will be able to conceive once you take advantage of data analytics. It will show how you can go about your business in the future and what it is that the economy already has its hands on.

  • Business value chain analysis will show how existing information is going to help the business find the path to becoming a successful company.

  • aking opportunities is another data analytics advantage. It gives the company analyzed data that helps in taking advantage of opportunities that would be otherwise unseen and unlocking more options for the organization in an economy that keeps on changing.

Data analytics can help improve decision-making, lower the possible risks every business has to face and reveal hidden insights that can be used to create opportunities and advantages over the competition.

Data Analytics for Students
Data Analytics is no more a surprising concept for a student to study as there is an explosion of tech tools that are available to make sense and also the industry is growing rapidly. Tech tools are available to make sense of institutional data which will help in further innovation. There is need of more and more institutional research and there is so much scope for exploration that the budding curiosity has also made this field an haute course.

Use of Data Analytics in the Education Sector
In the education sector as well changes are needed every now and then. Therefore, there is a need of new reforms which are done on the basis of what is needed for the students and what has been the previous student’s pattern all this is not just the work of a researcher but this can be done by an analyst in a short period of time with the help of the tools they have. This is how we have a requirement of Data Analytics in the educational sector.

Data Analytics for a Professional:
A professional may also need an analytical skill as to understand his work patterns. The thing is people will definitely have to use analytics in their profession as this can help them priorities what work that they can do or what is that they can do about the ongoing scenario. Work processes need analytical skills and therefore organizations are hiring a big bunch of analysts that can help them in working better.

PCP

How Data Analytics Will Help a Business Grow :

  • Analysis of business value Chain:
There are companies that’ll help you in finding the insights of the value chains that are already there in your organization and his is going to be done through data analytics. So, the analytics will tell how the existing information is going to aid the business in finding out the gold mine that is the way to success for a company. This information can be dug out on your own too if you hire a Data Analytics expert.

  • Industry knowledge:
Industry knowledge is another thing that you’ll be able to comprehend once you get into data analytics, it is going to show how you can go about your business in the near future and what is that the economy already has its hands on. That’s how you are going to avail the benefit before anyone else.

  • Seeing the opportunities:
As the economy keeps on changing and keeping pace with the dynamic trends is very important but at the same time profit making is one thing that an organization would most of the time aim for, Data Analytics gives us analyzed data that helps us in seeing opportunities before the time that’s another way of unlocking more options.

7. Emerging Trends in Information Technology

Introduction:

21st century has been defined by application of and advancement in information technology. Information technology has become an integral part of our daily life. According to Information Technology Association of America, information technology is defined as “the study, design, development, application, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems.”
Information technology has served as a big change agent in different aspect of business and society. It has proven game changer in resolving economic and social issues.
Advancement and application of information technology are ever changing. Some of the trends in the information technology are as follows:

1. Cloud Computing:

PCP

One of the most talked about concept in information technology is the cloud computing. Clouding computing is defined as utilization of computing services, i.e. software as well as hardware as a service over a network. Typically, this network is the internet. Cloud computing offers 3 types of broad services mainly Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS).

Some of the benefit of cloud computing is as follows:

  • Cloud computing reduces IT infrastructure cost of the company.

  • Cloud computing promotes the concept of virtualization, which enables server and storage device to be utilized across organization.

  • Cloud computing makes maintenance of software and hardware easier as installation is not required on each end user’s computer.

Some issues concerning cloud computing are privacy, compliance, security, legal, abuse, IT governance, etc.

2. Mobile Application:

PCP

Another emerging trend within information technology is mobile applications (software application on Smart phone, tablet, etc.)
Mobile application or mobile app has become a success since its introduction. They are designed to run on Smartphone, tablets and other mobile devices. They are available as a download from various mobile operating systems like Apple, Blackberry, Nokia, etc. Some of the mobile app are available free where as some involve download cost. The revenue collected is shared between app distributor and app developer.

3. User Interfaces

PCP

User interface has undergone a revolution since introduction of touch screen. The touch screen capability has revolutionized way end users interact with application. Touch screen enables the user to directly interact with what is displayed and also removes any intermediate hand-held device like the mouse.Touch screen capability is utilized in smart phones, tablet, information kiosks and other information appliances.

4. Analytics:

PCP

The field of analytics has grown many folds in recent years. Analytics is a process which helps in discovering the informational patterns with data. The field of analytics is a combination of statistics, computer programming and operations research. The field of analytics has shown growth in the field of data analytics, predictive analytics and social analytics. Data analytics is tool used to support decision-making process. It converts raw data into meaningful information.
Predictive analytics is tool used to predict future events based on current and historical information. social media analytics is tool used by companies to understand and accommodate customer needs.
The every changing field of information technology has seen great advancement and changes in the last decade. And from the emerging trend, it can be concluded that its influence on business is ever growing, and it will help companies to serve customers better.

5. The Internet of Things (IOT):

PCP

If you own or run a business, chances are you’ve already got your hands in something related to the Internet of Things. In fact, over the past year there’s been a 20% increase in devices connected by IOT, and experts estimate that there will be over 50 billion connected devices by 2020. Business owners are beginning to realize how the Internet of Things can revolutionize their company’s productivity, and have already started to hire experts who know their way around the operation and management of these devices.
The data generated by the Internet of Things is particularly valuable, as it can be gathered through wearable devices to provide highly targeted information. This drives the need for data analysts too, creating a ripple effect in the world of information technology.

6. Social Platforms:

PCP

Social media has been around for a long time, but what’s starting to change is the way people use these communication platforms. A few years ago, most customers would use a company’s website as their primary way of gaining information about the business, but studies show that users are now more likely to use social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook as their first point of contact. This is starting to cause a bit of a disruption in the information technology sector, posing new challenges and changing the way most companies do business.
The future will present a greater need for analytics experts and application developers to meet the growing demand for social platforms that are usable in business.

7. Data Security:

PCP

A common trend in every sector of IT over the last few years is the sheer amount of data being gathered, and the need to safely secure this digital information. Breaches in IT security have proved disastrous for many companies in recent years, with millions of dollars lost and valuable reputations on the line.
For many business owners, the bulk of their focus has shifted to data security to stop suspicious attacks before they happen. While this has certainly resulted in the need for more sophisticated security software, it’s the demand for experts in cyber security specialists that is growing into a mandatory resource.
